The first European Bison Friends Society assembly took place on 26th October 2005. During the meeting the members elected the president and board of the EBFS. Professor Wanda Olech- Piasecka was elected the president. She is the chief of the Department of Animal Genetics and Breeding. Among over 100 members of the Society there are mostly functionaries of the Warsaw Agricultural University, specialists of ecology, genetics, veterinary and breeding and other people involved in actions towards the species protection - breeding centers' and enclosures' directors and foresters. The main goal of the EBFS activity is supporting actions towards the protection of Bison bonasus. It is written in the Statute that the main area of activity is Poland, but if it's required by realizing goals actions can also be committed abroad. This goal is fulfilled by educational, scientific, editorial and documentary activity. We also plan to cooperate with NGO's and public organizations in order to ensure a proper execution of the requirements resulting from nature and environment protection law regulations. In the future the EBFS will organize conferences and symposia about biology and protection of B. bonasus as well as courses for private breeders.
