Swedish bison to Vanatori Neamt Nature Park in Romania
On the 17th of July 2009 four Swedish European bison (females) arrived to Vanatori Neamt Nature Park in Romania. The successful project has been possible by a large cooperation between many people and organisations from several countries. It was a long journey across Europe for the animals. So we worked hard to take care of the animals in the best way. Nevertheless we had some problems in the beginning with the authorities and rules from different countries - that were not the same although we all are a part of EU.
Two animals came from Avesta breeding center and one each from Boras zoo and Skansen/Stockholm zoo.
Much work and efforts have been done so the animals could have a good journey. First the animals must have been picked up from three different places in the west, east and a bit in the north of Sweden. Then the truck must go south again before the animals could be on the ferry. The route and ferry was chosen so that the truck could drive, across the Europe, in a bluetongue free zone.
The Swedish bison will be a part of a free living population that Vanatori Neamt Nature Park shall manage and develop with help from the European Bison Friends Society.
Many organisations have supported us to do this journey possible. First the whole project was initiated by the European Bison Friends Society.
